How the EZ grader works

Take the questions a student got right and divide by the total. A 25 question quiz with 4 wrong is 21 ÷ 25, which is 84%, a B.

The chart does that for every possible result at once. Set the test size, then press Enter after each paper and the count resets for the next one.

Why averaging your grades is wrong

Most classes weight categories differently. Say homework is 95% and worth 20%, and exams are 70% and worth 80%. The plain average is 82.5, but your real grade is 75, because exams count four times as much.

If your weights add up to less than 100, that is fine. You get your grade on the work marked so far.

Final grade calculator

Needed = (goal − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight. With an 84 going in, a final worth 25%, and a 90 as the goal, that is (90 − 63) ÷ 0.25, so 108%.

Anything over 100 means the final cannot do it alone. That is the moment to ask about extra credit, not the week after.

Standard grading scale

This is the plus and minus scale most US schools use. Plenty of classes shift it by a point or two, or drop the pluses entirely, so check your syllabus and change the cutoffs from the Scale menu if yours is different.

Once you know the grade, the next question is usually how to raise it. For written work, the essay grader scores a draft against a rubric and shows what to fix before you hand it in.

Common questions

What is an EZ grader?+

A quick way to score a test from two numbers: how many questions it has and how many the student got wrong. It gives the percentage and letter grade, plus a chart of every possible score so you can grade a whole stack without doing any maths.

How do I calculate my grade as a percentage?+

Divide the points you earned by the points possible and multiply by 100. 42 out of 50 is 42 ÷ 50 = 0.84, which is 84%.

How does the final grade calculator work?+

Enter your grade going into the final, the grade you want, and how much the final is worth. It tells you the score you need, lists the score for every letter grade, and lets you type a likely exam score to see where you would finish. Coming from the class grade tab, it fills in your current grade and remaining weight for you.

Does 89.5 round up to an A?+

It depends on your teacher, and a lot of them do not. This calculator gives the letter for the number it shows, so at 0 decimals 89.5 displays as 90 and gets an A-, while at 1 decimal it stays 89.5 and gets a B+. Pick the setting that matches how your class rounds.

How does it handle partial credit?+

Tick half points and the wrong count moves in steps of 0.5, and the chart lists every half step too. For anything finer, like a question worth 3 points, enter the test as total points instead of questions and count the points lost.

Can I enter letter grades in the class grade calculator?+

Yes. Type B+ or C and it counts as the middle of that range on your scale, so B+ counts as 88.5 on the standard scale. It shows the number it used under the row, so you can type a percentage instead if your teacher recorded one.

Is anything saved?+

Your numbers stay in this browser so they are still there next time. Nothing is sent to a server, because all of the maths runs on your device.
